It does, however, remind me of some recent word games that I've come across. I enjoy cryptic crosswords and appreciate a thoughtful anagram: I found that the word 'America 'could become 'in camera' (this at the time when the American government was embroiled in secret surveillance). Similarly, 'mad policy' became 'diplomacy'; 'stamp on' resulted in’ postman’; and 'headlamps' turned into 'lampshade'. Clever word use.
Whilst writing, or am I writhing, I'm listening to some music. That's another place where words can take on a new meaning. Grammar goes out the window in order to fit the correct number of syllables into a line, or to rhyme one word with another. Maybe in the 60's song writing seemed easier (gosh, that was a long time ago), and the words had a sense to them. Now, the music industry has created a new language that I find less appealing. Possibly that's progress and I should be more open to change.
Learning a new language, you either love it or hate it - no, that's too strong; I should say love it or tolerate it, depending on how easy you find learning them. As for me, I would love to be better at Spanish, but just don't seem to master it. I blame it on my age; my wife says that I'm good at numbers, so can't be good at everything, but the result is the same. If it’s possible to put a vowel in the wrong place, I’ll do it. If I can stress the wrong syllable, I'll find a way; and when I need to speak a sentence, the person I'm talking to has moved on to the next subject before I can prepare a reply! But I keep on trying! Sometimes, I think I could try and learn Spanish until my dying day and still not know how to ask the way to the cemetery, but that’s another story. When I came to Spain, eleven years ago, I thought that I'd be fluent within two years - I was so wrong. And what's more, after all this time, I think I'm losing my English-language skills! I read of a Canadian woman who fell off her horse, knocked herself out, and awoke speaking with a Scottish accent, even though she had no Scottish connections. Maybe I need a knock on the head; or maybe not, in case I wake up and speak Russian!
Well, I don't know if the stream has flowed in the right direction or not, and in case readers feel that this is where the water should dry up, it could be wise to finish. Maybe, writhing might be a more interesting subject; I'll think about that for a while..........
